What 'Go see your father/mother' REALLY means

Sweet Nicholas...o the messes he makes!

Today we began our morning with my folding a load of laundry my sweet husband washed for me while I was in Charleston yesterday...I then went to the back of the house to put away my t-shirts...when I returned from my 90 second trek the folded laundry was scattered on the living room floor with Nicholas tramping his sweet little feet all over it. :) YAY morning mess

THEN he wanted some of the little candies I like to have throughout the day to curb my sugar cravings...he continually pulled them out of his mouth to roll around between his fingers...then touching the computer mouse while playing PBS kids...YAY--morning mess #2 :)

Then things seemed to slow down mess wise...I got some orders packaged up, did some camera shopping online...and then I kept hearing this thudding noise from my bedroom....what the heck? I walked back there kind of frightened as to what Nicholas could be doing to cause this...o is it such a surprise to see him drawing on my very large mirror we have yet to hang on the wall...WITH MY BRAND NEW PINK GRAPEFRUIT MELALEUCA SOAP! It looks like a freakin' exorcism with blood running down the mirror happened in there!

SO I decided we would go see my friend Jessica and she generously agreed to let me drop Nicholas off to go to the post office around the corner from her house without him--which she then informed me it would be closed today because of good ol' Christopher Columbus so although Nicholas had a lil' play date--I still have packages to mail tomorrow! :)

BUT in efforts of not stinking in her home, I decided to take a shower...while in the shower Nicholas came in screaming, attempting to take off his clothes and get in the shower with me. I recently stopped allowing him to get in the shower with me--I feel he no longer needs to be in there with me; he's just gettin' too big and starting to point things out, etc.--so as he kept screaming while I washed my hair I just kept saying 'Go ask your father'--and after three times he finally left the room to ask Lee if he could get in the shower...

AND that's when it dawned on me...growing up I heard 'Go ask your father/mother' quite often...I now know what it really meant...To some degree it meant 'NO', but in reality--pertaining to my shower situation today, it means 'I'm tired of telling you 'no' so go ask your father because I know it will give me at least a 5 minute break from the question--and by then I can just be out of the shower'

Poor kid...but hey--he used enough soap for the BOTH of us already today!

Cheesy Tomato Soup for two

I'm desperately trying to get back on track with my low carb diet--that's when I like my body best and do indeed feel my best! My advocare supplements are helping curb that crave though so I know I will get there soon! Today I wanted a NO CARB LUNCH; my friend's son's birthday party was this afternoon and I knew there would be tempting treats--if I had NO carbs early in the day I could have a couple if I truly wanted them!

SO I made this; I love tomato soup and it's even better with grilled cheese--which is great with pickle spears...butttt no bread...SO i added the cheese to the soup and decided to add the gorgonzola for some 'bite' to the taste...delicious--and even a bit pretty! It was also super filling...almost like a chowder!

What you need--

1 medium pot
Imersion blender or food processor

1/2 stick butter
1 can diced or crushed tomatoes
1/4 block cream cheese
1/4 cup gorgonzola cheese crumbles

Optional garnish
shredded cheese of choice
parsley flakes
Pickles on the side

DIRECTIONS

Melt butter, add cream cheese and crumbles and stir to soften; turn down heat

add can of tomatoes and stir together

blend with immersion blender or pour into blender/food processor and blend

Serve with cheese and parsley flakes on top; pickles on the side

**you could thin it out with another can of tomatoes, milk, or chicken broth if you wanted it to go further or be more 'soupy'

if you are not low carbin' it add croutons!!!!!

Melaleuca--fabulous clean living

My friend recently introduced me to 'Melaleuca'--sounds kind of like some odd club...it's not.

It is a company committed to safer, cleaner living--and I jumped right on that band wagon. It's called 'Melaleuca' because melaleuca oil is in many of their products!

The main reason I decided to join is because of the cleaning products...did you know even children's bath soap has a form of formaldehyde in it to preserve it for longer shelf life!!!! SO yes, even your sweet baby shampoo is bathing your baby in embalming fluids...

I am not the best cleaner in the world but at least now I can clean without feeling like I'm suffocating from bleach!!!! I use the bathroom combo now and love it; I clean once a week and use a second spray every day to just keep mold and mildew and hard water from developing until the next cleaning day!

I also have a miserable time cleaning our laminate floors; I started using 'Melamagic' cleaner and although I am a terrible mopper--it actually seems to keep my floors from being gross on the regular!

I have switched our shampoos, body soaps, and tooth pastes to Melaleuca products now too...and although I LOVE my Advocare, I had a coupon to try some energy bars with Melaleuca...yea--I love them too...they are in my cookie jar!

I also am SUPER terrified about becoming aged and wrinkly...I bought an age defying serum that was $22 versus $75 of a department store competitor...LOVE...I was already developing a dark spot on my cheek and after less than a month it's started fading! YES--they sell make up too! I also have a foot care system--cleanser, lotion and spray because I genetically have old lady feet :( I also have the 'renew' lotion for when my husband sunburns his skin; it works BETTER than Eucerin but is NOT greasy, etc...awesome.

The way this company works is that you join--a one time fee--and then spend 35 points a month; which totals about $55...BUT what's really cool is everything you buy is wholesale price direct from manufacturer to YOU; and super concentrated so it last 3 times as long as what you spend retail price on in the store. For instance, my detergent--o yea, I use liquid dishwasher detergent and laundry detergent from them too--is $16 and last as long as 3 large tide liquid detergents that would cost $46...it's awesome.

For those of you allergic to sulphates--well they have soaps and shampoos that work amazingly well--all sulphate free!

They have vitamins, snacks, shakes, and supplements that are endorsed by Olympic athletes, and more...

AND not only do you SAVE money, you can MAKE money...any one you refer that signs up goes under you and you receive 7% of THEIR monthly spending...so if you get friends on the bandwagon, you practically get to shop there free, plus money back!

If $55 a month sounds like a lot, think about it--how much do you spend at the store monthly on detergent, cleansers, shampoo, soap, vitamins, toothpaste, candles, make up, lotion, snacks...and more that you could get from Melaleuca instead--all natural, chemical free is the way to go! In the presentation the woman told me children can accidentally drink these cleansers and although they will get a tummy ache there is not really any thing more serious than just that--a tummy ache...as obsessed as my son is with Windex and mop spray--I HAD to make the switch! Since I dont have a huge home and don't clean or go through detergent and dish soap weekly, I save money by rotating what I purchase. For instance, one month I'll get detergent, dish detergent, and cleansers...next month I'll do soaps, shampoos, and tooth paste...if i need a few more points I simply buy something we NEED regularly like ibuprofen, or I get a snack food, etc....seriously--it's simple and better for you, your family, and your home!

This month it is only $1 to sign up rather than $28!!!! Ask me for more info if you are interested!!! If you live in town you can come try some of my stuff out! It's all fabulous!

Potty Training HELL

OK so YES; we have been attempting potty training for MONTHS...MONTHS!!!

It has been a bit difficult to have a schedule because of so much traveling we have done since this summer--block leave in august, back to back weddings out of town in September, and now Lee and I are both taking trips this month--but I thought we would at least get a 'hey mommy--need to tee tee'...no...THIS is what I have received.

Nicholas DOES tell us when he poops...in fact sometimes he takes off his diaper, tries to wipe himself with his hand and comes to us with doo-doo on his hands, and usually also down his leg where the diaper just dropped to the ground when he undid the tabs, AND down his chest because after wiping his bottom and seeing nastiness on his hand he tried to wipe it off on himself...this has not happened daily, but I quit counting after nearly vomiting over the third occurrence.

My son's next favorite thing is when  I see poop or smell it I say 'let's go sit on the potty and get a new diaper' and he laughs hysterically and runs down the hall into our bedroom and climbs on MY SIDE OF THE BED. On two occasions I have had to change the sheets because the poop was rubbed onto my side of the bed--if it was on Lee's I would have just left it ;)

On some days Nicholas will take his wet diaper off and bring me a fresh one; again when I go to diaper him with the diaper he has brought for me to do so, he runs to my side of the bed...he then climbs up and rubs his butt and 'area' everywhere...needless to say the sheets are now changed almost twice a week rather than once.

And you know how your pets will bring you dead rodents? Nicholas leaves me wet diapers I can't find. I was buying pull ups for a while...he would leave me a wet one by my bedside and put on another pull up himself and I would never know he changed himself until I stepped on the wet one getting into bed that night...lovely.

Some of the other things I have tried are comical.

My grandmother said let him pee in a jar--I tried; I even got him naked and held it up on his 'area' so he couldn't miss it...he was not interested.

I hold treats in front of him and sit him on his little frog potty and he just screams til I give him the candy...he will sit and eat the whole thing and not pee...so treats are not working.

A couple weeks back I bought him big boy underwear; 'cars' and 'Thomas'...thought if he wets them he will get it...no. At first he wouldn't wear them...then he wanted a different pair each 20 minutes because he would put them on and go pee somewhere in the house...I cleaned the carpet in his room, then--by my bed, his FAVORITE place--then off two shoes in MY CLOSET. The underwear have stayed in his drawer since.

Sometimes when he takes off the diaper I find pee on the carpet later...I just ordered kid friendly spot remover because of this issue...otherwise my house is about to be so chemically potent we all will suffocate from the regularly removed urine.

Today I bought a timer and set it for every half hour--when it dings he has to go try...still no improvement.

Lee got home and took him in the bathroom and he actually got Nicholas to go once...then we put Nicholas in the shower with Lee and he peed in there, too. Kind of gross and not in the toilet--but tomorrow I am going to continue the timer and try letting him pee outside...I heard this works with little boys.

I want him to start pre-school in January and the program I am looking at he HAS to be potty trained almost completely...please keep your fingers crossed!
